What happens when you can’t take care of yourself? You’re BROKE!

Who is it who doesn't want Government Workers? Or, are jealous of what they have? It isn't "the people." Follow the Money.

My Mom and Dad in “Assisted Living” just a few short years ago. They thought they had enough money…

BOY, …it wasn’t no time, until….

Today, this Christmas Season 2013 in their new Skilled Nursing digs…

I can only think my parent’s story is not uncommon.  My Dad was not a “saver,”  nor did he know anything about the stock market.  He raised his three daughters on a Post Office pension.  His Social Security check was needed to make ends meet, but my family had what we needed. They had put away a small chunk of change for each of us three girls for after they had gone.

WRONG!

In the 2010 Movie EVERY DAY Brian Dennehy plays Helen Hunt’s aging father in these same circumstances. The movie haunted me for days. The pressure on this family gets so heavy, the husband (Schreiber) starts to wonder toward a sexy co-worker leaving his wife (Hunt) to cope on her own. This script nailed so many issues that affect us all (or…to clarify…those of us not in the top economic 2%.)

Can it get any better than these two??

What my family found out, to make a long story short was the care center was going to get it all, and there wouldn’t be enough at that!. (I’d vote for MEDICAID Expansion if I were you.)

My Daddy is 91. He is unable now, but was a musician and a poet. He had modest tastes, never a new car, but owned lots and lots of music.

My  Dad was a musician and a poet. He had modest tastes, never a new car, but owned lots and lots of music.

The stress on my Dad during the days of my sister taking over the overseeing of their finances was horrific.

We were very fortunate. My parents had been long-standing active in their church, and their religious denomination had two rooms available funded by benevolent funds, and my parents were safe.

But what of yours?

What of us?

Do you believe safety nets are the dreaded Socialism Word?  Is Social Security “Socialism” and should we do away with it?  Do you believe Food Stamps are only for the lazy?  According to some Congressmen we ALL should be successful entrepreneurs. Do you have $8,000 per month tucked away for Skilled Nursing?  Or… are you going to look for a tawwl bridge?
